How to Apply

Application to the Wiki

All players with approved characters will be given access to the wiki upon request; simply @mail staff with your Wikidot user name so we can send you an invitation. Once accepted, we encourage you to add your character to the Dramatis Personae section of the site, and post your logs to our Scene Archive. As a common courtesy, please refrain from editing anything except your character pages and logs unless given express permission. If you see an error in the wiki, page or @mail Luxuria in-game.

Application to the MUCK

Application is a fairly simple and painless process — if you follow the directions.

First, log into the game as a guest at marupa.net, port 2002. From there, type '@request' to request your character. When you submit your request, the game will assign you your character, along with a randomized password. Log out, and log back in under your character.

When you log in as your character, you'll find yourself at the Player Start. Type 'c' to begin the chargen process.

Chargen: Description

All characters need a description so other players know what they look like. Short descriptions can be set with '@desc me=<text>'. Longer ones can be created in the list-editor ('lsedit me=desc') and then set by typing '@desc me={list:desc}'. The listname (desc in this example) can be changed to anything appropriate, which also lets you store several descs.

Chargen: Background

In this room, you're going to set your character's background or history. Generally, we ask for a couple paragraphs here, to get a feel for the major influences in your character's life. We want to know what makes them tick. Who are their parents? Where did they grow up? What was their young adult life like, if they're an adult? We don't want pages and pages of backstory, but generally the more detailed you are, the better chance you have of being approved!

To set your character's desc, type '+hist #=<text>' where # is the paragraph number.

For example:
+hist 1=First paragraph.
+hist 2=Second paragraph.
+hist 3=Third paragraph.

Use as many fields as you need! By default, these lists cannot be viewed by anyone except you and the admin; to change this, use '+hist #public'.

Chargen: Abilities

If applying for a Trueblood skip this section.

If applying for any one of the other races (Touched, Therian, Abomination or Beast), describe what makes your character non-human. If they're an Abomination, describe what physical changes their body has undergone. Do they appear to be half-animal? Is their skin covered in a layer of leathery scales? If they're Touched, describe what they can do. Can they manipulate fire? Read minds? Alter others' perceptions of themselves? Remember, be detailed! If they're Therian or a Beast, you simply have to say what kind of animal they change into — and how much control they have over that transformation.

To set your character's abilities, type '+abil #=<text>' where # is the paragraph number.

For example:
+abil 1=First paragraph.
+abil 2=Second paragraph.
+abil 3=Third paragraph.

Use as many fields as you need!By default, these lists cannot be viewed by anyone except you and the admin; to change this, use '+abil #public'.

Chargen: Personality

In this room, you will set your character's personality. Generally, one paragraph should be enough, but if you want to write more, you're welcome to. 5-6 sentences should suffice, though.

To set your character's personality, type '+pers #=<text>' where # is the paragraph number.

For example:
+pers 1=First paragraph.
+pers 2=Second paragraph.

Use as many fields as you need!By default, these lists cannot be viewed by anyone except you and the admin; to change this, use '+pers #public'.

Chargen: Strengths and Weaknesses

In this room, you will set your character's strengths and weaknesses. Is there anything that your character has a talent for? Maybe they're an expert sharpshooter, or an accomplished dancer. Conversely, is there anything they're really bad at? What are their character flaws? You'll need to list both strengths and weaknesses for your character to be approved; we're all about balance.

To set your character's strengths, type '+strengths #=<text>' where # is the paragraph number.
To set your character's weaknesses, type '+weak #=<text>' where # is the paragraph number.

For example:
+strength 1=First paragraph.
+weak 1=First paragraph.

When you're finished, move onto the final room.

Chargen: Finishing Touches

The last thing you'll want to do is set your character's +finger information, which you can do by using '+finger #set'. If you followed the directions in the previous rooms, you'll find that many of the +finger fields, such as background and personality are already set — good for you! However, if there are any custom fields that you'd like to add, such as Actor or Wiki URL, do that now.

IMPORTANT: When you're done, type +submit to submit your character for review. Do NOT go out onto the grid during this time. You must wait for approval before going IC.
